Number of Covid-19 patients at Vidzeme Hospital on the rise
RIGA, Feb 11 (LETA) - The number of Covid-19 patients at Vidzeme Hospital in the northern Latvian city of Valmiera increased in the past 24 hours, with infections reported among hospital staff as well, the hospital's spokeswoman Benita Brila informed LETA.
As of Friday, 31 Covid-19 patients were receiving treatment at Vidzeme Hospital. In the past 24 hours, 11 patients were admitted to the hospital and one was discharged. In the previous days, the number of Covid-19 patients had remained under 30 at the Vidzeme Hospital, Brila said.
The Covid-19 patients receiving treatment at the hospital include several pregnant women and three children.
The hospital's spokeswoman indicated that an average of 23 to 25 employees had been ill with Covid-19 in recent days, although all of them are fully vaccinated in line with existing regulations. The hospital's employees that have contracted Covid-19 do not require hospitalization and most of them have light or moderate forms of illness. "Patient care is ensured, but the healthy employees are overworked," Brila said.
