RIGA, Dec 28 (LETA) - A woman in her twenties died of Covid-19 in the Liepaja regional hospital today, the hospital's spokeswoman Indra Grase informed LETA. 

According to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the coronavirus has so far killed 18 patients in the age group of 20 to 49 years. 

Grase noted that this is the second Covid-19 death reported in the Liepaja hospital. 

In all, 50 Covid-19 patients were being treated in hospitals in the western Latvian province of Kurzeme as of Monday. 

The Northern Kurzeme regional hospital in Ventspils was treating 32 Covid-19 patients on Monday and 18 Covid-19 patients were receiving treatment in the Liepaja hospital. 

As reported, during the past 24 hours, 78 Covid-19 patients were hospitalized, one of them was transferred to a different hospital, while the number of patients with severe symptoms has reached a new negative record - 61, according to the National Health Service data.

In total, there are 1,048 Covid-19 patients currently being treated in Latvian hospitals, including 987 with symptoms of medium severity and 61 suffering severe symptoms.

Also, 19 Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours, including one who was transferred to a different hospital, bringing the total number of patients discharged from hospitals so far to 3,093.

As reported, another 508 people in Latvia tested positive for Covid-18 on Sunday, while 19 patients died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).
