Latvia is in eighth place among EU and EEA countries by Covid-19 incidence - ECDC
RIGA, May 6 (LETA) - Latvia's Covid-19 incidence is the eighth highest among member states of the European Union (EU) and the European Economic Area (EEA), according to the latest data released by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).
Covid-19 incidence in Latvia has climbed as last week Latvia ranked 13th.
According to ECDC estimates on the situation from April 19 to May 2, Latvia's cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population was 441.2. The countries reporting higher infection rates for the two-week period include Cyprus, Sweden, Croatia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, France and Slovenia.
The highest incidence level is reported in Cyprus - 1,145.4 cases per 100,000 residents, and the lowest in Iceland - 42.3 cases per 100,000 residents.
In Estonia, the cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence has dropped to 388.3 cases per 100,000 population, which is the 11th highest among EU and EEA member states. Lithuania's cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence rose to 576.4 cases per 100,000 population, ranking Lithuania fifth among other countries, according to ECDC data.
Latvia's 14-day rate of Covid-19 deaths per one million population decreased, placing Latvia 14th among EU and EEA member states. In the past two weeks, Latvia's Covid-19 death rate was 47.7 cases per million population
Higher mortality rates were recorded in Hungary, Bulgaria, and Poland. In Lithuania, the mortality figure was 66.6 and in Estonia 54.2.
Like a week ago, Latvia remains in the red zone of the EU's Covid-19 travel map, denoting territories where the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases is between 150 and 500 per 100,000 population.
The Vilnius region in Lithuania are in the dark red zone as its two-week Covid-19 incidence exceeds 500 cases per 100,000 population, but the rest of Lithuanian territory and Estonia are in the red zone.
