More restrictions to be introduced in Latvia as of December 21

RIGA, Dec 17 (LETA) - In order to curb Covid-19 spread, the government today decided on harsher restrictions as of December 21.

The restrictions will be in force for three weeks - until January 11, 2021. The restrictions will not refer to people's mobility.

The restrictions will refer to gathering of people and trade.

At the same time, school holidays for pupils of grades 1-6 will be extended for one week.

As reported, to contain the spread of Covid-19, Latvia has introduced a state of emergency from November 9 to January 11.

The government decided to impose an obligation to wear face masks indoors except at home, so they will also have to be worn by job collectives as well.

Restrictions on gatherings have also been set, namely, from December 3, everyone in Latvia has to follow the "2 + 2" principle in their daily routine - so the distance of two meters must be observed and meetings must be limited to two people.

Until January 11, all cultural venues, exhibitions, as well as fairs, including Christmas markets, are closed. Libraries are able to hand out books only for pick-up.
