124 Ukrainian refugees learn Latvian language in Riga
Riga, Jan 27 (LETA) - As many as 124 Ukrainian refugees have learnt Latvian in Riga in the integration project implemented by the Riga City Council, LETA learned.
The Riga municipality implemented the project in cooperation with the US Embassy in Latvia and its aim was to help Ukrainian refugees integrate more quickly and effectively into Latvian society and the labor market.
The project offered various activities, including Latvian language courses, in-depth learning through music and culture, training on social integration topics and a mentoring program Refugee-to-Refugee aimed at helping other refugees from Ukraine.
The main target group of the project was Ukrainian refugees registered in Riga, regardless of their age, gender, level of education or other factors.
In total, more than 250 Ukrainian refugees have been involved in the project activities, 124 refugees have been trained in Latvian and 20 trained Ukrainian mentors have been employed in the Refugee-to-Refugee program.
The project was implemented with the financial support of the US Embassy in Latvia in the amount of EUR 184,543. The total cost of the project is EUR 226,642.
