Transport Ministry to support initiatives of local governments to borrow money from Treasury for repairs of important bridges
RIGA, July 28 (LETA) - The Transport Ministry will support initiatives of local governments to borrow money from the Treasury for repairs of the important bridges, said Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (New Conservative Party) during the meeting the State Audit Office council member Edgars Korcagins.
The minister's aide Ilze Salna said that Linkaits met with Korcagins to discuss the current audit of safety of municipal bridges and bypasses and other audits related with management of municipal transport infrastructure objects.
"It is important that bridges and bypasses managed by local governments are in good condition, especially strategically important bridges and bypasses that ensure connectivity for people's mobility and business. Therefore, the Transport Ministry supports plans to local governments to borrow from the Treasury to maintain roads and bridges," said Linkaits.
He also said that the Transport Ministry in cooperation with the Riga City Council is preparing a report on the loan needed for repairs of a number of bridges and bypasses in the capital. The report will be submitted to the Cabinet of Ministers by the end of summer.
