Moose calf born at Ligatne Nature Trails
RIGA, June 15 (LETA) - Mirga, a female moose at Ligatne Nature Trails gave birth to a calf in May, Valters Kinna, a nature education specialist at the Nature Conservation Agency of Latvia, informed LETA.
The moose calf spent the first weeks of its life in the wooded parts of the moose enclosure, staying away from other animals and hiding from the sights of nature trails' visitors. Now, the month-old calf is following its mum wherever she goes, exploring the immediate area.
The calf does not have a name because its sex is not known yet, Kinna said.
All moose of Ligatne Nature Trails live in the same enclosure and just like it is in the wild, bull moose Jusis, the father of the newborn calf, does not participate in raising the young. Mirga, by contrast, keeps a close eye on her baby and is highly protective of the calf.
