Number of enterprises grew in 25 municipalities last year - Lursoft

Riga, Jan 17 (LETA) - The number of companies in 2024 has grown in 25 municipalities, according to information compiled by Lursoft.

More than half of all municipalities will have a positive balance in the number of enterprises in 2024, according to Lursoft data, which show that the number of new enterprises was higher than the total number of liquidated enterprises in 25 municipalities.

Lursoft particularly highlights the municipalities of Livani and Adazi, where the number of new companies in 2024 was 70 percent higher than the number of companies liquidated in the same year. Although the number of liquidated companies increased in Livani municipality last year, the number of newly registered companies grew even faster, which has helped to maintain the positive trend.

Data collected by Lursoft show that in 2024 as many as 21 enterprises were be liquidated in Livani municipality, while the number of newly registered enterprises reached 37, which means that the total number of enterprises in the municipality increased by 16 during the year.

The second municipality with the highest ratio of newly registered enterprises to the number of liquidated ones is Adazi municipality. In this municipality, the number of liquidations continued to decrease last year, while the number of new registrations showed an increasing trend. During the year 88 companies were liquidated in Adazi municipality, but the number of new companies was even 65 more than the number of liquidated ones, i.e. in 2024 the number of newly registered companies in the municipality reached 153.

Although a large part of all Latvian companies are registered in Riga, Lursoft has found that in recent years there has been a tendency for their share in the total number of newly registered companies in the country to decrease. For example, in 2022, 47.13 percent of all new companies were registered in Riga, in 2023 their share dropped to 46.47 percent, and last year it continued to drop to 45.76 percent.

Lursoft noted that the number of liquidated companies has decreased in only six municipalities during the year, among which the fastest decrease was in Ventspils municipality, where last year one fifth fewer companies were liquidated than in 2023.

As reported, 9,320 new companies were registered in Latvia last year, which is 6.2 percent more than the year before.

At the same time, the number of liquidated companies also increased, rising by a fifth over the year to 9,432. Although there were more liquidated companies than new ones last year, Lursoft points out that this was the second lowest number of liquidations in the last ten years. Only in 2023 were there even fewer liquidations.
