Orange warning issued in Carnikava, Krustpils, Plavinas and Salas regions due to rising water levels
RIGA, March 3 (LETA) - On Tuesday, the Latvian Environmental Geology and Meteorology Center issued an orange warning in Carnikava, Krustpils, Plavinas and Salas regions due to rising water levels.
The meteorology center informs that the ice broke on Tuesday in the Gauja River near Carnikava at around 4 pm. Currently, the movement of ice has stopped, but the water level continues to rise.
The center forecasts that the water level in the Gauja near Carnikava will continue to rise, as the ice movement and compaction continues.
Water levels in the Daugava Raver in Krustpils, Plavins and Salas Region also continue to rise.
The orange warning is in effect in the four mentioned regions from March 2 to March 4 at 4 pm. This means that during this time, people in these areas must be prepared to protect themselves and their properties, as flooding of property and transport infrastructure is possible, as well as electricity, water supply and telecommunications may be disrupted.
There is also a risk of evacuation for residents in the orange warning areas. People are urged not to visit or move around the flood-prone areas.
