Riga secondary schools see most significant drop in number of pupils

RIGA, Sept 11 (LETA) - The most significant drop in the number of pupils in Riga has been recorded in secondary schools, according to the information compiled by the Riga City Council education, culture and sports department.
In total, the number of pupils in schools of the Latvian capital has increased by 464 - to 68,671 pupils on September 1. Still, the rise is also related with the children of Ukrainian refugees enrolling in schools.
According to the department, this school year there will be 1,519 children from Ukraine learning in schools in Riga, including 179 in the Riga Ukrainian school.
Riga secondary schools this school year saw the number of pupils drop by 694. The department explained this by the unified entrance examination for grade 10, enrolling in secondary schools, which might be the reason why some pupils might have chosen vocational education instead.
