RIGA, Feb 5 (LETA) - With 103 Covid-19 patients admitted to hospitals in the past 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus patients in Latvia's inpatient facilities dropped by nine people to 986, according to the data released by the National Health Service.

In the past 24 hours, 99 coronavirus patients were discharged from hospitals and the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC) reported the death of 28 coronavirus patients. 

The number of hospitalized coronavirus patients with symptoms of medium severity decreased by 14 from the day before to 884, while the number of severe patients rose by five to 102.

Altogether 6,626 coronavirus patients have been discharged from Latvia's hospitals since the start of the pandemic.

As reported, In the past 24 hours Latvia confirmed 876 new Covid-19 cases and 28 people died of the coronavirus disease, according to the data released by the CDC.

Of the latest Covid-19 victims, five persons are in the age group of 55 to 70 years, 12 in the age group of 70 to 80 years, eight in the age group of 80 to 90 years and three in the age group of 90 to 95 years.

Of the 11,495 Covid-19 tests carried out in the past 24 hours, 7.6 percent came back positive, up from 6.3 percent the day before. The CDC explained earlier that in the European Union this indicator is considered important because when this figure rises above 4 percent, the spread of the disease is considered to be rapid and uncontrolled.

Latvia's total Covid-19 caseload thus reached 70,276, while death toll grew to 1,309 people, or 1.86 percent of all the confirmed cases.

According to LETA's estimates, Latvia has recorded 10,690 Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days, while the country's cumulative 14-day Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 population is now 560.4.
