Sigulda municipality plans to give up heating with natural gas

RIGA, June 8 (LETA) - Sigulda municipality has prepared a procurement and has started to prepare documents for financing to give up heating with natural gas in the municipal properties, LETA learned from local government's representative Sindija Brikmane.

The transition to woodpellet boilers will be carried out in those buildings which are not switched to the central heating system and which are heated with natural gas.

Sigulda local mayor Ugis Mitrevics (National Alliance) said that now, at the time of energy crisis and when culmination of costs will come with the winter, it is important to act and not to hope for a wonder. Reducing dependence on natural gas and reducing uncertainty about whether there will be heating and adequate bills, the local government has made a decision to look for alternative energy sources.

At present, the local government has 14 objects and buildings with individual heating with gas boilers. Procurements and documents are being prepared to replace theses with woodpellet boilers.

According to initial estimates, investments might reach EUR 1 million. The local government has consulted the Finance Ministry on a possibility of a loan for the purpose.
