Local governments offer different support to those offering accommodation to Ukrainian war refugees
RIGA, April 8 (LETA) - As there are no centralized regulations on support to individuals who offer accommodation to Ukrainian war refugees, the support offered by local governments differ by municipality, Riga vice mayor Linda Ozola (Conservatives) said in a press conference today.
She said that the government has decided to pay a benefit of up to EUR 20 a day per person, which is a sufficient sum for tourist accommodation facilities, but not for individuals.
For example, if an individual offers accommodation for a family of four, theoretically EUR 80 a day or more than EUR 2,000 a month could be paid to the individual. Ozola said that this sum is very large, therefore the Riga City Council continues work on the principles for this benefit.
The Riga City Council also is working on an algorithm for trilateral agreement to be signed by the local government, the property owner and the asylum seeker.
Ozola said that it would be much easier if the government had developed a centralized procedure for granting benefits to individuals who are offering accommodation to refugees.
She said that Riga so far has provided accommodation to 1,800 people from Ukraine, including 100 of them have been accommodated in properties offered by individuals.
