RIGA, Oct 18 (LETA) - Riga public transport tickets will change from next year, including a significant decrease in the price of monthly tickets, Riga City Council vice mayor Vilnis Kirsis (New Unity) told LETA.

The most significant changes will be introduced in prices of monthly tickets. If monthly tickets currently cost EUR 50, as of next year they will cost EUR 30. Thus, Riga will harmonize the situation with other Baltic capitals, where monthly public transport tickets cost EUR 28-30, Kirsis said. 

The current discounts, for example, for students, will also be maintained.

A 90-minute ticket will also be introduced.

Kirsis noted that the changes will not affect the categories of passengers with 100 percent discounts.

Such an agreement has been reached at the Riga City Coyuncil coalition. The changes still should be supported by the responsible committee and the Riga City Council. Also, the changes should be approved by the Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry.
