Pupils of 13 classes learn remotely, six kindergarten groups closed in Gulbene municipality due to Covid-19 outbreaks
RIGA, Nov 30 (LETA) - Pupils of 13 classes are learning remotely, six kindergarten groups have been closed due to Covid-19 outbreaks in Gulbene municipality, said the local government's education board representative Dace Kablukova.
Covid-19 has been detected in Gulbene regional secondary school with 1,200 pupils and 13 classes are learning remotely as there is at least one Covid-19 infections in each of them.
Also, Covid-19 outbreak has been reported in two kindergartens and three preschool groups.
Kablukova said that more than 90 percent of education employees have been vaccinated against Covid-19. Ten teachers and four preschool teachers have lost their jobs because they have not been vaccinated.
Gulbene regional council chairman Andis Cainitis (LRA) told LETA that there is not just one Covid-19 outbreak in the region, but the infection has spread in education institutions, and there are separate cases in other institutions and companies.
Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) said at the government meeting today that the reasons and spread of Covid-19 in Gulbene municipality will be analyzed as this municipality shows the highest incidence in the country.
As reported, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence in Latvia has dropped to 632 cases per 100,000 population, while in Gulbene municipality it has risen to 1,269.2 cases, according to estimates drawn by LETA.
