Public opinion of Riga City Council's performance has not changed much - survey
RIGA, Jan 12 (LETA) - Residents' opinion of the Riga City Council's performance has not changed significantly, a November 2024 survey by SKDS pollster shows.
The survey found that 41 percent of Rigans were approving of the city council's performance, while 47 percent voiced disapproving opinions.
In May 2024, 42 percent of respondents had a positive opinion of the city council's work, while 46 percent had a negative opinion.
In the November survey, 2.5 percent voiced highly positive opinion of the city council's performance, 38 percent described their opinion as rather positive. Meanwhile, 8.2 percent had an extremely negative opinion and 38.6 percent rather negative opinion of the councilors' job performance.
In November 2024, respondents were most positive about the provision of water supply and sewerage services, with 82 percent of respondents voicing a position opinion. The quality of public utility services was appreciated as good by 74 percent, and 73 percent were satisfied with public transport and heating services, as well as the city's cultural life.
The establishment and maintenance of parks, squares, green areas, as well as the provision of public order and security in the territory of the capital city were approved by 67 percent of respondents. Also, 65 percent were satisfied with lights in the city, 64 percent with municipal waste management, 62 percent with the maintenance of school buildings, 59 percent with the maintenance of of kindergartens, and 58 percent with promoting healthy lifestyles and sports.
In other areas, less than half of the respondents gave a positive assessment, with just 16 percent of respondents being satisfied with the city council's performance in fighting corruption.
The survey was run from November 1 to 17, interviewing 805 Rigans at their homes.
