Number of hospitals with high occupancy of Covid-19 beds has increased
RIGA, May 18 (LETA) - Six hospitals in Latvia report very high occupancy of Covid-19 beds, which is more than a week ago, according to a presentation of the Emergency Medical Service submitted for the government meeting today.
A week ago, four hospitals reported very high occupancy of Covid-19 beds, but this week six hospitals out of 16 report that 75 percent of their Covid-19 beds are occupied. The highest occupancies are reported by Dobele hospital (94 percent), Riga East University Hospital (91 percent) and Jelgava hospital (90 percent).
Slightly lower, but still high occupancy is reported in Tukums hospital (89 percent), Ludza medical center (87 percent) and Bauska hospital (three fourth of planned Covid-19 beds).
The average occupancy of Covid-19 beds in hospitals is 67 percent, which is by 6 percentage points higher than last week. Hospitals have 1,049 beds for Covid-19 patients, including 173 beds for patients with severe symptoms.
