    Talsi region may have to repay over EUR 2 million due to alleged violations of procurement procedure

    RIGA, April 29 (LETA) - The western Latvian region of Talsi may have to repay over EUR 2 million worth of funding due to violations, the regional government's representative Inita Fedko told LETA. 

    The Central Finance and Contracting Agency (CFCA) found the violations while checking two  projects' procurement procedures. As a result, the Tukums region may have to repay the financing in has received for the projects. 

    Fedko said that the violations have been found in procurement procedures related to the project 'Stendes Street in Talsi. Reconstruction to ensure the operation of the industrial territory' and 'Public infrastructure development in Talsi to ensure operation of the industrial territory. Stage 2'. The procurement commission of the Talsi local authority believes that the allegations are based on interpretations of legislative norms. 

    In the case of the first project, CFCA has decided to apply a financial correction worth 25 percent of the contract, which means that the regional government would have to repay EUR 291,840 of the funding. 

    Fedko said that the regional government has appealed that CFCA ruling and providing a detailed argumentation, but that CFCA refused to reverse its decision. 

    In the case of the second project, the CFCA has ordered the Talsi region to repay 100 percent of the funding allocated to the project, or EUR 1,723,347 (including VAT). 

    As the spokeswoman told LETA, the Talsi regional government has agreed to meet with CFCA representatives in May to seek a solution that would allow to complete the construction works.
