Jekabpils Hospital looking for ways to add more intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients
RIGA, Nov 2 (LETA) - Jekabpils Regional Hospital is looking for opportunities to increase the number of intensive care beds for Covid-19 patients, Margarita Melnikova, the chairwoman of the hospital's board, admitted to LETA.
She explained that the hospital has re-profiled nine resuscitation beds for Covid-19 patients. However, as the number of severely ill patients increased, two more beds had to be re-profiled last weekend.
"There is always a potential patient who will need an intensive care bed," Melnikova said, adding that in such cases, medics evaluate how to provide this care.
The hospital is currently looking for solutions to increase the number of intensive care beds. This takes time, as oxygen must also be ensured.
