New Unity expected better election results in Liepaja and Adazi - Aseradens
Riga, June 8 (LETA) - The New Unity party expected better results of the municipal elections in Liepaja and Adazi municipality, Arvils Aseradens (New Unity), Chairman of the Board of the party Unity, told LETA.
He said that overall the results of the local elections were good, as the party's main goals were achieved.
Aseradens stressed that the objectives were achieved in Riga and in large municipalities such as Valmiera, Kuldiga, Preili, Salaspils and Kekava, but the election results were worse in Liepaja and Adazi, where the New Unity did not get into the regional councils.
"The New Unity is not happy about the situation in Rezekne, either, because it failed to reach an agreement with the 'state-minded parties', so now to some extent the development process in Rezekne will come to a dead end," said Aseradens.
At the same time, he noted that the party was also "pleasantly surprised" by the Bauska municipality, because previously the party had virtually no positions, but now it has won second place.
Commenting on the results of the Riga municipal elections, Aseradens said that the results were without surprises and the main challenge was for "state-minded parties" to be able to form a majority. "Now the opportunity is there, so we should not miss it and reach an agreement," added Aseradens.
