Liepaja Hospital decides on closing some units due to influx of Covid-19 patients

RIGA, Oct 26 (LETA) - Due to a rapid influx of Covid-19 patients, Liepaja Regional Hospital will restrict outpatient services and is deciding on closing some units, the hospital's spokeswoman Indra Grase told LETA.
Grase said that the hospital has little possibilities to open any additional units because it would then be left unable to provide treatment to urgent non-Covid-19 patients.
On Tuesday, Liepaja Hospital was providing treatment to 78 Covid-19 patients, including ten ICU patients. Of these patients, eight people are in need of lung ventilation because of their extremely severe condition.
Two patients are receiving high-flow oxygen therapy, and there is also a child and a pregnant woman among the Covid-19 patients receiving treatment in Liepaja Hospital, the spokeswoman said.
As reported, last Sunday the number of Covid-19 patients receiving hospital treatment in Latvia rose to 1,444, which is the highest number recorded in Latvia yet, according to the National Health Service's data.
