Mayor of Talsi Municipality deposed in no-confidence vote
RIGA, Nov 7 (LETA) - Members of the Talsi municipal council at an extraordinary meeting on Monday dismissed Sandra Petersone (National Alliance) as Talsi mayor by ten votes to nine.
Petersone said at the extraordinary council meeting that her tenure as chairperson of the municipal council had been full of challenges as the local government had been implementing the administrative territorial reform which included changes the municipality's territory and redistribution of functions.
Talsi vice mayor Andis Astratovs who chaired the extraordinary council meeting, informed that another extraordinary council meeting would be called this Wednesday, November 9, to elect a new mayor of Talsi Municipality.
Last Wednesday, October 26, the Talsi municipal council received an application signed by ten opposition councilors and calling for a vote of no-confidence in mayor Petersone.
The no-confidence motion was tabled by Edgars Zelderis who has been elected to the Saeima and is therefore resigning from the Talsi council, three councilors from the regional alliance We - For Talsi and the Region, three councilors from New Unity party, two councilors from the Latvian Green Party and former National Alliance member Eva Karklina.
Opposition councilors criticized Petersone for excessively trimming the municipality's executive arm, leaving the local government unable to work productively.
