RIGA, Sept 13 (LETA) - At a meeting on Sunday, new Rezekne Region Council members elected from five tickets on Saturday agreed to form a coalition, as former council chairman Monvids Svarcs (Unity) told LETA.

It was also agreed that Svarcs would be nominated for the council chairman.

The new coalition at Rezekne Region Council will be formed by Svarcs, Vilis Deksnis, Anna Rancane, Inta Brence, Anita Ludborza and Gunars Igaunis elected to the municipality from a joint ticket of New Unity, Movement For and Latgale Party, Erika Teirumnieka and Aija Kiserovska from a joint ticket of National Alliance and Association of Latvian Regions, Georgijs Jevsikovs and Janis Freibergs from For Latvia's Development, Guntis Rasims from the New Conservative Party, and Kaspars Melnis and Gunars Smeilis from the Union of Greens and Farmers.

The opposition will be made up of six members of Harmony party: Jekaterina Ivanova, Aivars Buharins, Edgars Nizins, Guna Popova, Vasilijs Arbidans and Felicija Lescinska.
