Latvian-Estonian intergovernmental commission to discuss promoting cross-border cooperation
Riga, Nov 25 (LETA) - On November 27, a meeting of the Latvian-Estonian intergovernmental commission for the promotion of cross-border cooperation will be held in Riga to discuss measures and activities that will help ensure free movement of labor, goods, services and capital in the cross-border regions of Latvia and Estonia, LETA learned from the Smart Administration and Regional Development Ministry.
The meeting is scheduled to discuss coordination of cross-border rescue operations and civil protection, access to healthcare and public services in the border areas, as well as improving transport links, including Rail Baltica and regional passenger transport.
The operations of the Latvia-Estonia border and joint measures in case of temporary border control reintroduction will also be discussed.
The agenda also includes a discussion on the challenges and development opportunities for the regions of the two countries close to the EU's external border, the reform of foreign language teaching and the implementation of the Interreg program.
The previous meeting of the Latvia-Estonia intergovernmental commission was held in Estonia in 2022.
