Websites of several regional media compromised - Cert.lv

RIGA, Feb 18 (LETA) - Latvia's Cyber Incident Response Institution Cert.lv has been notified that several regional media websites have been compromised by inserting a malicious JavaScript code, Cert.lv representatives informed LETA.

The code potentially gives hackers the ability to display unwanted or harmful content to website visitors.

Cert.lv has contacted the host of the websites and is providing recommendations and support to address the incident.

The preliminary analysis of the incident points to the hackers' connections with Russia, but for the time being there have been no indications of the attackers' attempt to manipulate the websites' content, Cert.lv said.

The host has temporarily blocked the affected websites and is taking recovery measures. Access to the websites will be fully restored once the threat is removed.

The regional media informed Cert.lv that they are participating in a digitalization initiative funded by the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Facility, with a special focus on cyber security issues.

Cert.lv is a unit of the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the University of Latvia, whose tasks are to maintain a unified picture of the activities taking place in the electronic information space, to provide support in preventing or coordinating the prevention of information technology security incidents in the IP address areas of Latvia and in the.lv domain zone.
