GKR/Greens/Farmers promise high-quality infrastructure, modern education environment in Riga

RIGA, March 31 (LETA) - The alliance of the political parties Honor to Serve Riga (GKR) and the Union of Greens and Farmers (Greens/Farmers) is promising residents of Riga to ensure a consistent and responsible development of the Latvian capital city by providing high-quality infrastructure, a modern education environment, effective social support and strong economic growth.

As the alliance informed LETA, in the runup to this year's municipal elections, GKR/Greens/Farmers promise to increase support to teachers by 30 percent, create a motivation program and competency training for them, as well as to provide free breakfast to preschool and grade 1-3 students and free lunch to grade 1-9 students.

The political alliance promises to build new sports infrastructure in Riga's neighborhoods, develop a football stadium on the Lucavsala island and reopen the House of Congresses for various events until the start of the building's renovation.

On social protection and health, the GKR/ZZS promises a EUR 1,500 child birth benefit, and a EUR 200 support for seniors to improve their health. The alliance of the parties also promises to introduce a chaplaincy service in social care and health institutions.

The GKR/ZZS election program states that Riga should become the tourist capital of the Baltics and Scandinavia. To achieve this goal, a passenger ferry service has to be restored in Riga.

Today, GKR/ZZS submitted its electoral list and program for the Riga City Council elections to the Central Election Commission.

GKR/ZZS' candidate for Riga mayor is MP Olegs Burovs, while other leading candidates running in the municipal elections on the GKR/ZZS ticket include Andris Kalnins, president of the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association, and MP Andrejs Vilks.

Other MPs on the GKR/ZZS electoral list include Juris Radzevics, Dainis Turlais and Ainars Bastiks.
