Augsdaugava municipality does not wish to merge with Daugavpils
RIGA, Nov 3 (LETA) - Augsdaugava municipal council with a central administration in Daugavpils does not support the planned amendments to the law on administrative territories, providing that the municipality should be merged with Daugavpils, LETA learned from the council.
The decision not to support the merger has been made because the duty of the Saeima arising from the Constitutional Court ruling to assess possible development centers in Augsdaugava municipality has not been followed.
In the sustainable development strategy for Augsdaugava municipality, two places have been approved as development centers - Spogi village and Ilukste.
As reported, On October 21, the Saeima in principle supported amendments, providing for a merger of the state cities Daugavpils, Jelgava, Liepaja, Rezekne and Ventspils with the adjoining municipalities by 2025.
