Skriveri High School decides not to resume in-person attendance for younger children

RIGA, Feb 19 (LETA) - Even though the Covid-19 incidence rate in Skriveri Region meets the safe schooling criteria, Andrejs Upitis Skriveri High School has decided not to resume in-person attendance for students in grades 1-4 for the time being, LETA learned from Skriveri Region Council.

The school's principal Aldis Rakstins said that there were a total of 135 students in grades 1-4 at Andrejs Upitis Skriveri High School, and 15 teachers teaching these students.

At the moment, two teachers are in self-isolation as they have been in contact with a Covid-19 positive person, as are children from four families. As a result, the local government and school representatives have agreed that in-person attendance will not be resumed at the school from Monday.

If the situation does not change, in-person school attendance could resume for students in grades 1-4 on March 1.

"This is because of safety considerations, we do not want to resume in-person school attendance just to close the school again a few days later," said Skriveri Region Council's Chairman Andris Zalitis, adding that further action would be decided later.

As reported, as of next Monday, pupils in grades 1-4 will resume contact learning in municipalities with low Covid-19 incidence, the government decided Thursday.
