Muizniece agrees with Ukrainian parliament vice speaker on cooperation for inclusion of Ukrainian children in Latvian education system
RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - On Monday, the Minister of Education and Science Anita Muizniece (Conservatives) agreed with the Vice Speaker of Ukrainian Parliament Olena Kondratyuk on ways to jointly facilitate the inclusion of Ukrainian children living in Latvia in the education system, the Ministry of Education and Science told LETA.
Muizniece met with Kondratyuk on Monday to discuss the most topical issues related to the educational process of Ukrainian children and youth living in Latvia.
During her visit to Riga, the Vice Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament also visited the Riga Ukrainian Secondary School, appreciating the existence of such a school in Latvia. She repeatedly emphasized the need for children and young people from Ukraine to learn the Latvian language and integrate into Latvian society as successfully as possible.
During the meeting, Muizniece pointed out that one of the ways to promote the learning of the Latvian language is through summer camps, which will be organized for children and young people, while teachers from Ukraine will also be offered the opportunity to attend Latvian language courses. She stated that currently almost 40 teachers from Ukraine work in schools all over Latvia, which is also an important support for students.
Both parties agreed on the exchange of information and other forms of cooperation to promote the integration of children into the Latvian education system. The representative of Ukraine praised the fact that in Latvia children and young people are also provided with the support of a speech therapist, psychologist and social pedagogue, as well as agreed on the need to attract specialists from Ukraine with the appropriate education.
Muizniece and Kondratyuk also discussed issues related to the successful start of the new school year in the autumn.
