Majority of people will spend Midsummer night in countryside

Riga, June 20 (LETA) - The majority of Latvian internet users, or 39 percent, are planning to spend Midsummer night in the countryside, according to an annual survey of internet users by the internet research and technology company Gemius.

Gemius representatives informed LETA that 25 percent of the group will spend the holiday in their country home or summer cottage, while 14 percent will visit the countryside of relatives or friends. Last year, 42 percent planned to spend their holidays in the countryside, 40 percent the year before, and in 2022, 39 percent of respondents chose such a place for celebrations.

The survey shows that 19 percent of respondents do not plan to celebrate Midsummer, compared to 17 percent last year. The same number of respondents - 19 percent - planned to spend the holiday in the city - 12 percent at home, 4 percent will attend a public event in the city, and 3 percent will visit friends or relatives. In 2024, 18 percent of respondents planned to spend the holiday in the city.

Gemius notes that for the last few years, a constant 5 percent of respondents plan to be outdoors during the festivities. 3 percent will work or be out of the country, 2 percent plan to celebrate at a public event in the countryside, 1 percent will go to a campsite or guesthouse, while less than 1 percent gave other answers about the place of celebration - celebrating the solstice, looking after grandchildren, looking after grandma, and some do not recognize the holiday at all as it is not a Christian holiday and rather plan to go to church.

On the other hand, 8 percent of respondents are still undecided about their plans.

As many as 2,129 Latvian internet users took part in the survey. The survey was carried out using an internet pop-up questionnaire shown to randomly selected internet users. The survey was carried out from June 16 to June 20.
