Golubeva calls on Pieriga municipalities to revise their attitude to admission of refugees
RIGA, March 15 (LETA) - Pieriga municipalities should revise their attitude to admission of refugees, said Latvian Interior Minister Marija Golubeva (For Development) in an interview with the Latvian public television on Tuesday.
She said that activity of municipalities is very different. "Riga is investing much in arranging the process, all services are working,' she said.
So far, 700 refugees have turned to the civic defense commission in relation with accommodation in Riga, 276 people wish to stay in Liepaja and Dienvidkurzeme municipality, 310 in Ventspils.
"I am thankful to every municipality that opens a center for refugees, for example, like in Cesis. I think that also other municipalities should consider that, for example, in Pieriga, who send people over to Riga, saying that they have not such possibilities. They should revise their attitude," the minister said.
On February 24, Russia unleashed a war in Ukraine, targeting not only military, but also residential areas, Belarusian army entered the territory of Ukraine on March 1. More than two million civilians have been forced to flee their home and country. Thousands have arrived in Latvia.
