    Cargo turnover in Salacgriva port up 40.7 percent in H1

    RIGA, July 12 (LETA) - During the first six months of 2021, the port of Salacgriva reloaded 220,329 tons of cargo, up 40.7 percent against the same period a year ago, LETA was told at the port.

    Reloading of pulpwood increased 41.6 percent year-on-year to 57,527 tons, accounting for 26.1 percent of the port’s cargo turnover in January-June 2021 (26 percent a year ago).

    Reloading of woodchip cargos rose 12.3 percent year-on-year to 49,430 tons, handling of peat increased 70.2 percent to 49,175 tons, and reloading of firewood jumped 2.2 times to 24,043 tons.

    Asphalt cargos fell rose 4.4 percent to 16,246 tons, while handling of ceramsite increased 11.9 percent to 18,738 tons.

    In the first six months of 2021, the port of Salacgriva handled 4,225 tons of organic fertilizers/grain and 945 tons of timber. No such cargos were reloaded in January-June 2020.

    The number of ships handled in Salacgriva grew by 18 year-on-year to 69 ships in the first six months of this year.

    In 2020, the port of Salacgriva reloaded 300,859 tons of cargo, which was up 0.4 percent from a year before.

    There are three large and seven small ports in Latvia. In 2020, Salacgriva ranked third among the small ports by cargo turnover.
