We must take a more regional approach in regards to Covid-19 restrictions and their control - Girgens

RIGA, Feb 12 (LETA) - In regards to Covid-19 restrictions and their control, they should be approached more regionally, paying the greatest attention to the regions where there is a higher infection rate, this opinion was expressed this morning by the Minister of the Interior Sandis Girgens (For a Humane Latvia; KPV LV) to Latvian Radio.

The government is currently discussing the introduction of a regional approach to the resumption of full-time learning, but the minister of the interior believes that such a principle should be applied more widely in order for the system of restrictions to be more effective.

Girgens said that the lifting of the curfew on the weekends also was decided so that the police could work more purposefully and efficiently in controlling Covid-19 restrictions.

Police controlling Covid-19 restrictions will now be redeployed where the biggest risks are - transportation, shopping malls, and public places at a time when people are most socially active.

The politician thinks that the next step on the part of the government should be to "straighten out transportation issues" so that there are even fewer crowds. Girgens also still believes that beauty care services and indoor sports training should be allowed, with precise restrictions.

The minister noted that the government has increased the allowances for interior workers controlling Covid-19 restrictions to 75 percent, thus the financial issue can be considered resolved.
