More than EUR 5.8 million earmarked to strengthen capacity of Jekabpils regional hospital
RIGA, March 19 (LETA) - Thanks to the funding granted by the state, EUR 5,884,795 will be earmarked for strengthening Jekabpils regional hospital's capacity, the hospital's spokeswoman Lasma Vindule reported.
The hospital plans to develop and improve 80 beds for treatment of medium-severe patients, expand its intensive care unit among other plants.
"In spring 2020 when financing was distributed among regional hospitals to get prepared for the second wave of Covid-19 infection, Jekabpils regional hospital did not receive any. Despite that, already in the fall we ensured equal treatment of Covid-19 patients are other hospitals who received the funding," said the hospital's head Margarita Melnikova.
In her words, the above mentioned investment in infrastructure is a significant opportunity to renovate the hospital.
In January, Jekabpils regional hospital treated 57 Covid-19 patients with symptoms of medium severity, and eight to nine intensive care beds.
