Adamovics, who was once tried on fraud charges, returns as mayor of Preili municipality
RIGA, June 27 (LETA) - Aldis Adamovics, the leader of the joint list of Latgale Party, the New Unity and For Latvia's Development, was on Friday elected mayor of Preili Municipality.
Adamovics used to serve as Preili mayor and MP but lost his lawmaker's mandate after he was convicted on fraud charges involving apartment rent compensations and falsification of documents.
Adamovics was elected Preili mayor by 12 votes to three, with councilors from the Latvian Association of Regions and the Progressives voting against him.
Adamovics was the only candidate nominated for mayor of Preili municipality.
The joint list of Latgale Party, the New Unity and For Latvia's Development won the municipal elections in Preili municipality, according to data published by the Central Election Commission (CEC).
The joint list of political forces received 47.19 percent of the votes in all 16 polling stations in the Preili municipality, which ensures nine seats in the regional council.
The joint list of the Progressives and the Latvian Association of Regions received 19.36 percent of the vote, winning three seats.
The Union of Greens and Farmers came third with 10.21 percent of the vote, winning two seats. The National Alliance follows with 8.26 percent, winning one seat in the council.
According to the Central Election Commission, 49.05 percent of eligible voters took part in the municipal elections in Preili municipality.
