RIGA, Feb 10 (LETA) - At the end of January, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.5 percent of the economically active population, which is up 0.2 percentage points from the end of December 2024, according to information published by the State Employment Agency (NVA).

At the end of January 2025, a total of 48,827 unemployed people were registered with the NVA, which is 2,274 more than a month earlier, when 46,553 unemployed people were registered with the agency.

The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of January was still in the Riga region - 4 percent of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points more than at the end of December, while the highest registered unemployment rate was in the Latgale region - 10.7 percent, 0.4 percentage points more.

The fastest rise in registered unemployment in was in Kurzeme - by 0.6 percentage points, accounting for 6 percent of the economically active population at the end of the month.

In Vidzeme and Zemgale, the registered unemployment rose by 0.3 percentage points and 0.5 percentage points respectively and was 5.7 percent at the end of November.

At the end of last year, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.3 percent of the economically active population.
