Riga sees 34% rise in number of foreign tourists in January
RIGA, March 18 (LETA) - In January this year Riga received 69,409 foreign tourists, which is an increase of 34 percent against January 2024 when the Latvian capital was visited by 51,611 foreign tourists, LETA was told at the Riga Investment and Tourism Agency (RITA).
This past January, the foreign tourists spend a total of 123,626 days in Riga, an increase of 35 percent against the same period a year ago.
The highest number of foreign tourists - 8,911 - came from Lithuania, 8,745 came from Estonia, which is 50 percent more than a year ago, and 6,883 tourists came from the UK, a rise of 33 percent. The number of tourists from Germany grew by 18 percent to 4,589, and the number of Finnish tourists rose 41 percent year-on-year to 3,450.
The steepest increase (90 percent) was recorded in the number of Danish tourists, followed by Norwegian (75 percent), Estonian (50 percent), Swedish (43 percent), and Finnish (41 percent) tourists.
