Current mayor Helmanis emerges as winner in local elections in Ogre region
RIGA, June 6 (LETA) - The joint ticket of the National Alliance and the Union of Greens and Farmers won local elections in Latvia's most populous region of Ogre on Saturday, paving the way for their lead candidate Egils Helmanis' return as the region's mayor, the Central Election Commission informed.
The joint ticket of the National Alliance and Greens/Farmers received 48.94 percent of votes in the elections.
New Unity placed second with 9.31 percent and the Latvian Association of Region was third with 8.99 percent.
Movement For followed with 6.62 percent, the joint ticket of For Development of Latvia and Vidzeme Party with 5.9 percent and the National Alliance Justice with 5.88 percent of the vote.
Voter turnout in Ogre Region was 38.28 percent in this year's local elections.
As reported, 327,938 voters or 34.01 percent of eligible voters cast their votes in this year's local government elections, according to the Central Election Commission's data.
This is the lowest voter turnout since the restoration of independence.
