Administrative territorial reform has not been completed yet - Limbazi mayor
RIGA, Aug 20 (LETA) - The administrative territorial reform has not been completed yet, said former Salacgriva, now Limbazi municipality mayor Dagnis Straubergs (Latvia's Association of Regions), opening the congress of the Latvian Association of Local Governments today.
The goal of the reform is to develop strong municipalities. At present they are not strong.
"The new municipalities are like small children who should be taken care of in order for them to become powerful and strong," said Straubergs.
He said that "fathers of the reform" will have to share responsibility in order to strengthen the new municipalities.
As reported, the 31st congress of the Latvian Association of Local Governments (LPS) takes place today to elect the board, the chairman of the board and deputies. The congress will focus on the work of local governments after the Administrative Territorial Reform.
