Russian embassy in Riga now will have address of Ukrainian Independence Street

RIGA, March 4 (LETA) - The section of Antonijas Street in Riga on which the Russian Embassy is located will be renamed to Ukrainian Independence Street, LETA learned from the Riga City Council.

The decision has been made by the Riga City Council coalition parties - For/Progressives, New Unity, National Alliance, Latvia's Association of Regions, Conservatives and For Latvia's Development.

Such a decision has been made to voice support to Ukraine's sovereignty, territorial integrity and aspirations towards European integration, as well as to voice the strongest support to Ukraine's heroic fight, resisting the attacks by Russia.

A similar decision was made this week by Lithuanian capital Vilnius, renaming the street address of the Russian Embassy to the Ukrainian Heroes Street.

"The Russian Embassy, change you business cards: the street of Ukrainian heroes, No 2. (…) The business card of every staff member of the Russian Embassy will now have to honor Ukrainian heroes. And every person writing a letter to the embassy will have to think about victims of Russian aggression, and Ukrainian heroes," Vilnius Mayor Remigijus Simasius said.

As reported, on February 24, Russia unleashed a war in Ukraine, targeting not only military, but also residential areas, Belarusian army entered the territory of Ukraine on March 1, forcing thousands of civilians to flee their home and country.

Meanwhile, Russian authorities continue spreading false information, trying to justify its invasion in Ukraine. Russian authorities have announced that anybody who is revealing the war crimes committed in Ukraine, on the civilians killed in Ukraine or losses of the Russian army, resistance of the Ukrainians is spreading false information and should be punished with a jail term.

Russia has forbidden to call its attack on Ukraine a war or invasion. All media are forced to use euphemism "special operation" as ordered by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
