Rere Ineco to design Rail Baltica regional mobility points for EUR 3.6 million
RIGA, Nov 4 (LETA) - Latvian and Spanish joint venture Rere Ineco will design Rail Baltica regional mobility points for EUR 3.6 million, said Kaspars Vingris, the board chairman of Eiropas Dzelzcela Linijas, the national implementer of Rail Baltica project.
Rere Ineco has been established by Latvian company Rere Vide and Spanish company Ineco.
The design should be completed by the end of 2023 so that construction of regional stations can be started in 2024, said Vingris.
Rail Baltica will be used not only for international passenger and cargo transportation, but it will also improve regional mobility. Everyone can be able not only use the train to travel to Warsaw, but also, for example, travel from Bauska to Kaunas or Riga.
Transport Minister Talis Linkaits (Conservatives) said at the ceremony for signing the agreement that Rail Baltica will considerably change regional mobility and provide options, helping to move the passenger flow from private to public transport.
Rail Baltica regional trains will stop both at international stations and regional stations, developing a speed of up to 200 km/h. There will be 16 regional stations or mobility points in Latvia.
Rail Baltica regional stations will have a unified design and they will be groups by the size - big, medium and small stations. All stations will be zero-emissions buildings with high environment requirements. There will be attractive and functional outdoor territory.
The stations will serve as regional mobility points where different types of transport meet - railway, buses, private cars, electric transport, scooters, bicycles.
As reported, Rail Baltica is the largest railway infrastructure project in the Baltic states and a key project of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) North Sea-Baltic Corridor, which aims to integrate the Baltic States into a single European railway network.
