Jelgava Region Council Chairman Caune tests positive for Covid-19
JELGAVA, Jan 7 (LETA) - Jelgava Region Council Chairman Ziedonis Caune (Latvian Farmers' Union) has become sick with Covid-19; at an extraordinary meeting on Thursday, the region council appointed Aija Tracuma (Latvian Association of Regions) acting chairwoman of the council, LETA learned from the local government.
Tracuma, who is currently on vacation, said at Jelgava Region Council's remote meeting today that she would be back at the municipality tomorrow, January 8.
Jelgava Region Council today also appointed Eleja County administrator Ingus Zalitis the council's acting executive director.
This past Tuesday, Caune together with the Jelgava Region Council's Executive Director Liga Lonerte and her deputy Valdis Buividaitis participated in a flower-laying ceremony at the Latvian riflemen memorial in Lozmetejkalns.
After Caune tested positive for Covid-19 yesterday, Lonerte and Buividaitis are in self-isolation.
Caune's deputy Ilze Vitola (Latvian Farmers' Union) also tested positive for Covid-19 at the end of December.
