70% of employees in Riga schools are vaccinated
RIGA, Aug 27 (LETA) - About 70 percent of employees at Riga schools have been vaccinated, Riga City Council officials said in a press conference.
On August 23, vaccination rate has been reported at 69 percent in schools, 68 percent in sports schools and 72 percent in music and art schools.
The lowest vaccination rate has been reported in kindergartens - 56 percent. Riga Mayor Martins Stakis (Progressives/For) said that this is related with the fact that kindergartens have more technical staff than teachers.
At the same time, this can also be explained with the fact that kindergartens last school year did not have the negative experience with closures and remote learning process as schools.
Stakis said that the vaccination rate will still improve as many teachers have not yet completed their vaccination course.
