RIGA, Jan 20 (LETA) - Out of the 1,088 new Covid-19 cases confirmed in Latvia over the past 24 hours, more than 25 percent were recorded in Riga and Daugavpils, but the virus has continued to spread also in the Jelgava and Gulbene regions, according to the data released by the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

The 184 new cases discovered in Riga brought the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases in the Latvian capital to 3,590. In Daugavpils, 104 new cases brought the 14-day number of Covid-19 cases to 968.

In the Jelgava region, the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases reached 253, with 84 cases discovered in the past 24 hours. 

The Gulbene region recorded 53 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the 14-day number of cases to 163. 

In the city of Jelgava, the cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases reached 437, with 48 cases registered in the past 24 hours.

Also, 41 new coronavirus cases were reported in Liepaja, 31 in the Preili region, 28 in the Daugavpils region and 26 in Rezekne. The Adazi and Livani regions each registered 24 new coronavirus cases. 

With 3,590 Covid-19 cases recorded in the past two weeks, Riga remains the municipality with the highest cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases, followed by Daugavpils with 968, Jelgava with 437, Rezekne with 435, Liepaja with 316, Daugavpils region with 314, Jekabpils with 310, Talsi region with 276 and Jurmala with 229 cases.

Latvia's cumulative 14-day number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population is now 662.4.
