(w/ADD) Greens/Farmers and GKR present their joint electoral list for Riga municipal election

    (adds paragraph 5-6)

RIGA, March 22 (LETA) - MP Olegs Burovs, the Latvian Hotel and Restaurant Association's president Andris Kalnins and MP Andrejs Vilks will be the leading candidates running on the joint list of the Union of Greens and Farmers and Honor to Serve Riga (GKR) in this year's municipal election in Riga, the parties' representatives informed Saturday.

Besides Burovs, Kalnins and Vilks, the joint electoral list of Greens/Farmers/GKR also includes current members of the Riga City Council - Juris Radzevics, Dainis Turlais and Ainars Bastiks.

Stella Lapina, board chairperson of the National Rehabilitation Center Vaivari, GKR board members Andris Treimanis and Ausma Cimdina, as well as GKR secretary-general Ervins Straupe are also running for seats on the capital city's council.

The Greens/Farmers/GKR list includes 63 candidates in total.

As for their objectives, the two political parties intend to increase the one-time birth allowance to EUR 1,500, ensure rehabilitation service to children and create family-type adult care facilities. Greens/Farmers and GKR also promise a renovation of multi-apartment houses, which would include replacing obsolete elevators with new ones.

Their program also includes construction of a new stadium on the Lucavsala island and making Riga an attractive tourism destination. The parties promise clear rules for business, an effective management of municipal property and a development of a plan for Riga's historic center.

As reported, GKR and Greens/Farmers announced their plan to join forces for the 2025 municipal elections already in 2023.

Unlike GKR, Greens/Farmers have failed to win representation on the Riga City Council in several consecutive elections.

Burovs believes that the joint electoral list might win around 10 percent of the vote in this year's election. Commenting on "red lines", Burovs ruled out cooperation with Stability, but said that talks with other political parties are possible.
