RIGA, Sept 8 (LETA) - So far no special rides are planned for vaccinated persons in regional bus routes, said Road Transport Directorate's board chairman Kristians Godins.

He said that if the bus driver on regional routes has to check Covid-19 certificates for all passengers, the bus might get delayed. The bus driver not only drives the bus in line with the schedule, but also sells tickets.

The directorate's representative said that passenger transportation service providers in cities and Pasazieru Vilciens train company may choose whether to introduce special rides for people with Covd-19 certificates or negative tests. They do not have to coordinate their decisions with the directorate.

Godins said that in-person learning started at schools on September 1, and the number of passengers carried on regional routes has risen compared to summer months. The government increased the maximum allowed capacity in public transport.

As reported, maximum capacity of public transport has been increased from 65 percent to 80 percent, while companies providing commercial passenger services and public transport service providers in large cities will be allowed to organize rides exclusively for passengers with valid Covid-19 certificates, according to the amendments to the regulations adopted by the government on Tuesday.
