Regional development ministry's expert Sults to be appointed administrator of Dundaga local council

RIGA, May 10 (LETA) - Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry's leading expert Maris Sults will be appointed the administrator at the Dundaga local council, according to a draft decision prepared by the ministry.

The Cabinet of Ministers will review the bill on dissolution of the Dundaga local council on May 12.

The Saeima plans to dissolve the Dundaga local council as it is not able to ensure the functions stipulated in the legislation. Sults will be appointed as the head of the temporary administration.

The administration has to perform the function of the local council, ensure uninterrupted operation of the municipal institutions, carry out financial and business activities.

The administration will work until the day the newly elected council of Talsi county convenes the first meeting.

As reproted, Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Arturs Toms Pless (For Development) has decided to initiate dissolution of the Dundaga regional council.

Since the Dundaga council has proven unable to elect a chairperson and vice-chair and has suggested in its reply to the ministry that it will make no further attempts to elect its leadership, the Environmental Protection and Regional Development Ministry will submit to the government a bill to dissolve the Dundaga council, Pless informed.

The Dundaga council has been without a chairman since January 28 due to the squabbles between the three regional parties represented on the local council.
