RIGA, Nov 26 (LETA) - The new political party established by Daugavpils Mayor Andrejs Elksnins, Sarauj, Latgale! (Lets Go, Latgale!), is gaining interest not only in Latgale, but also outside the province, the politician told LETA.

The party invites all those who share its ideology to join it.

"I make no secret of the fact that there is a lot of interest, and it extends beyond Latgale. But I will refrain from naming specific names at the moment. We are at the very beginning of building a team and we are not going to rush," the politician commented.

Elksnins said that the new party does not judge people by their language or culture, but by their involvement in the prosperity of the region and the country.

Asked what the party's position was on the issue of Russia's war in Ukraine, the politician replied that it was "a typical question, a marker, to which you don't really need an answer because you have already made up an answer for me".

"Whatever I say, you will look for some hidden subtext. But I will answer. I am a Latvian citizen, an elected official, and my position coincides with the position of the Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is well known to you," Elksnins said.

As reported, Sarauj Latgale! was established this past weekend in Daugavpils, with Elksnins elected as the party's chairman. Around 270 people attended the founding congress.
