Gailezers in Riga to be first social care home to receive Covid-19 vaccines

RIGA, Feb 10 (LETA) - Riga social care center Gailezers will be the first one to receive Covid-19 vaccines, thus, starting immunization of social care center clients and employees, Riga City Council welfare department director Irena Kondrate told the press today.
"We are the first ones to try this out," she said.
Gailezers social care center will receive 80 vaccine doses. Kondrate said that 115 of all 376 clients have voiced their readiness to get the vaccines. Explaining the response level, she said that each institution has people who are still willing to wait.
In total, social care institutions have a high level of people who have already recovered from Covid-19, and have to wait until they can get the vaccines.
Welfare Minister Ramona Petravica (For Humane Latvia, KPV LV) informed today that approximately 70 percent of residents in nursing homes and 50 percent of nursing homes' employees are willing to vaccinate for Covid-19.
