Riga housing management company RNP turns to Corruption Prevention Bureau over organization of the debt collection process in Riga
RIGA, Jan 20 (LETA) - Riga housing manager Rigas Namu Parvaldnieks (RNP) has turned to the Corruption Prevention Bureau over the organization of the debt collection process in the city, as RNP board chairman Ronalds Neimanis told the Riga City Council's Security, Corruption Prevention and Public Order Committee today.
RNP completed internal investigation on January 19. Based on conclusions of the investigation, RNP is proposing disciplinary proceedings against several employees, which the Riga City Council's committee will have to decide.
RNP has submitted information on suspected violations to the Corruption Prevention Bureau.
Neimanis said that RNP had received information from several sources. He declined to further comment on the case as this could impede investigation.
According to Neimanis, RNP has also informed the State Police of its findings.
The media reported at the beginning of January that, as a result of bailiff Rolands Veinbergs' actions, an 89-year-old woman lost both her apartment and savings in the amount of EUR 28,000. The police have opened a criminal case on large-scale fraud.
RNB board then decided to temporarily suspend Veinbergs.
LETA has learned that Veinbergs had received more than half of RNP's debt collection cases since 2016.
RNP representative Krists Leiskalns said the company could not explain why more than 50 percent of debt collection cases had gone to Veinbergs since 2016, even though RNP cooperated with more than a hundred bailiffs. For instance, in 2019 about 70 percent of RNP's debt collection cases were handed over to Veinbergs. This is not against the law, yet this is not in RNP's interests either. Leiskalns said that RNP would carry out internal investigation to find out what had happened.
